Hornets working to finalize 3-team deal: Chris Paul to Lakers, Gasol to Rockets & Odom, KMart, Scola to NO, per Wojo on Twitter.

The Rockets seem to get raped pretty hard there. I don't understand their thinking at all. What a shock that a team owned by the league hands over Paul to the Lakers of all teams. Season hasnt even started and I'm already disgusted with the NBA.
Lakers are also getting 1 or 2 large trade exceptions and potentially Emeka Okafor in the deal.
My god.
sf giants r the best

If the Lakers don't get Okafor, then they'd be a very small team. Trading both Odom and Gasol.
They'll bulk up, especially with 15-20 million dollars in trade exceptions.
And for what it's worth, NO still has to ship out about 10-15 in salaries for this deal to work. Emeka makes 12.5 :| lol

NBA owners complained to Stern about this and Stern had them kill the deal LOL
it's not completely dead, but apparently more players need to be involved. F THE LAKERS

Ok, the NBA keeps getting stranger. As much as I hated the thought of Paul being a Laker, I am shocked the league put a stop to this trade. Unless it was done in the best interest of Houston, I don't get it. NO seemed to be coming out pretty good. As far as the Lakers go, I hated the trade because the next obvious step was Howard joining them next season. Another part of me wanted this trade to go through and see how in the hell LA was going to even compete against the Kings on the 26th with no Odom, Gasol, and not Bynum due to his suspension. Would have been nice seeing them get banged around. Well this is going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

The league owners own the Hornets and they blocked the trade. If the Hornets hadn't been owned by league owners, then this trade would have gone through.

I am so glad that Paul isn't going to the Lakers but wow is this just embarrassing by Stern. Hornets actually got a pretty good return IMO as well as the draft picks. This really sucks for them. They now basically are STUCK with Paul and will have to watch him walk. No way they can trade him now or else the league will look like it dictates where players go
what a complete mess this is

They'll trade Paul to another team. Boston is still there. Maybe they can keep it between Houston and New Orleans this time too.

Commissioner,
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3818/). (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3513/) (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4325/) who may become a max-salary player).
I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals? http://www.clippertalk.com/sites/all/libraries/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/teeth_smile.gif
Please advise….

lol, Gilbert is such a little shit stirrer.
Yah I don't know how anyone thought this trade would go through with the other NBA team owners owning part of the Hornets. I just think the NBA could have done a better job and just stopped the discussions from happening in the first place if they had no intentions of letting this trade go through.
I also think Stern is trying to crack down on the players trying to be spoiled and demanding trades only to the big market cities while they are under contract.

Yeah that sh*t is old. Players trying to dictate where they go..and now looks like Stern is trying to dictate where they go
it's ridiculous

I don't see any reason why they can't dictate where they go while a free agent but when they are under contract for a team and demand a trade to a big market team to coattail to a championship with another star that's where the line needs to be drawn
