A recent stress echo test performed on Kings’ center/forward Chuck Hayes revealed an abnormality which will require further testing this evening and tomorrow. An update will be provided as more information becomes available.

Thanks.

Hopefully that means Jason Thompson gets an increase in his minutes, while Hickson gets an even bigger decrease.

lol why do you dislike JJ so much? He's not much of a defender - but he can score well. He beasted after the all-star break.

Hickson is far better than JT offensively....not even close

I think JT will improve greatly this year, hopefully a breakout year for him.

I was curious as to why Hayes wasnt there tonight.I hope this doesnt become a problem further down the line. Ohh John "Ballhog" Salmons got hurt tonight. Looks like he pulled something and the trainers helped him into the back locker room. Jimmer cant pass at all. He looked to worried out there and thought about it to much. Doesnt help either when the crowd all say shoot it every time he touches it and even at half court. Jt looked decent out there. Biggest baller on the court tonight was Isiah Thomas. The dude looked better than Jimmer out there and got around his guy with ease. He opened up the floor for our bigs and looked to give oops alot. Hands down the best baller tonight. Worse.......Whiteside. I talked to him before the game and got an autograph and told him i was rooting for him last season and was dissapointed. He said he was dissapointed with himself to and hopes to get minutes this season. Well I was hoping he worked on some thing cause he does have good potential. Well the guy cant catch a ball if his life depended on it. His shots are rushed trying be a stat filler instead of team player. Ohh I also think we will have a worse freethrow shooter than shaq. Whiteside couldnt make no free throws. THorton looked right where he left off. They sat out Tyreke and Cousins and made them team captains. All in all though our new additions looked good and Garcia looked good as well

True, I did see those numbers after the All-Star break. I had him on my fantasy team.

I just think he's reached his peak on offense, he doesn't have any real moves. And he takes bad jumpers.

Thompson has been consistent around the .500 mark every season. And he shot .507 last year. I'll take his consistency and FG%.

If I sort bigs by ORTG over the last 3 years:

http://bkref.com/tiny/9Ch5x

Thompson is 55th with a 106 ORTG

Hickson is 66th/72 with a 102 ORTG.

Neither player has improved offensively, nor shown much advancement. But I feel that Thompson plays within himself more (even if he messes those up too), while Hickson tries to do more than he's capable of. Or he plays further from the basket.

Hickson averages 4.2 attempts from 10 feet out or further:

http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=J.J.%20Hickson

Thompson averaged 2.6 attempts from 10 feet out or further:

http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?name=Jason%20Thompson

Hickson's %'s were also worse from those areas than Thompson.

Hickson also reminds me a little of Stromile Swift. Gets useless blocks, and tries harder shots on offense than he needs to.

Thompson's problem is making easy shots look hard.

Hickson's problem is making hard shots look hard.

(Some players make hard shots look easy).

Sure, I'll like Hickson's rebounding. But not his offense nor defense. Plus, the Kings were great at rebounding last year, and should be great again this year.

In fairness, Hickson was more or less getting doubled in Cleveland - JT was a 4th or 5th option for the Kings. They're really two different players, so, it's difficult to compare the two - it's like comparing Chuck Hayes to Cousins.

I'm not saying Hickson's going to be some stud or anything - but, at the same time, you don't see a lot of 23 year old power forwards with his scoring ability around. I think Hickson just had a difficult time adjusting from being essentially covered one on one to being game-planned against and doubled when Lebron left.

True, but Williams / Baron Davis, and Jamison were bigger options for the Cavs. And Ramon Sessions.

We'll see about his scoring, I just hope it looks more "in the flow". Actually all of the bigs, except for Hayes, will probably take some forced shots next year, haha. That's just a part of who they are.

If we traded Casspi for somebody who can't get minutes over Jason Thompson we made a bad trade.

It's not a matter of "could", but "should". They're different players. Hickson is more likely to put up a bigger scoring night, and he will get more blocked shots. His FG% will be worse though.

Thompson won't look to shoot as much, but will shoot a higher FG%. Thompson is around a .500 shooter. They're both bad defenders in different ways.

It's up to Westphal to figure out which lineups work best. Which lineups work better with Hickson, and which ones work better with Thompson.

Plus, if the Kings sign one more FA big, then it's likely neither Hickson nor Thompson is needed much. And that's a good thing, because it means we have better players than both of them getting minutes.

sooooooooo.....not exactly thrilled with the lack of news, especially given that Jeff Green of the Celtics is out for the season with a heart issue.

I agree. Plus fantasy drafts are starting, it would be nice to know if Hayes will be ready to play in game 1.

If Hayes is out for an extended period, I'm thinking Nuraman's Humprhies scenario becomes a lot more attractive. They could go back to Dalembert, but I think he's in long term negotiations with the Rockets.

Dalembert must be lowering his price then, as Houston has the least cap space between them, New Jersey, Sacramento.

How does Houston get all of these shot blockers? Olajuwon, Mutombo (old), Dalembert.

Rockets keeping Thabeet. If they're going to give him an actual look, then I don't know if they want Dalembert standing in his way. Or maybe he'll just be the 15th man, like Sean Marks or Hassan Whiteside.

Oh, he's a fringe player - I don't think they're very concerned with the time he gets. He looks so lost out there it's sad :( Makes Whiteside look like Shaq. lol

I think Houston's sitting on about, give or take, 9 million in cap space so they could give him a pretty solid deal.

They are keeping Thabeet due to his young age, and overall false hope that he might develop into a tangible asset. He is still every bit as horrible as he was when Adelman critized him upon first coming to Houston. For now he gets to practice and get junk minutes if needed...and a low-cost insurance in case of injury to other bigs on the team
