View Full Version : Kings Claim Travis Outlaw Off Waivers
Yeah, do not like at all.
Also means the AK-47 dream is done I guess.
Per Wojo:
The Sacramento Kings have claimed ex-Net Travis Outlaw with a bid off amnesty waivers, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Outlaw was a decent player when he provided bench scoring for Portland. He was mainly responsible for beating Atlanta every year. But the Kings don't need more offense. They have enough players that they're trying to integrate.
Bet they bid just enough to get to the minimum team salary.

We would all be luke warm on Kirilenko...and we can't even get him
this sucks, as usual
Outlaw is really, not good. He was good about four years ago. In that case, why not sign Michael Redd. lol
Might as well play Donte. Outaw's not much better.

WOW! I honestly thought the Maloofs had past the point of pissing me off anymore. I thought finally they hit rock bottom/ Well guess what they just spent 3 million dollars to dig even deeper then before, and piss me off even more

While that contract is trade-able, why for four years? One would have been sufficient.

Whatever you bid, is for the remainder of the contract. So the bid was 3 million, but they have to pay that for the remainder of his deal, every year.

So it happened. Petrie and the Maloofs got their overpaid scrub that I have feared all offseason. A guy for us to hate, ridicule and scorn every time he misses an open 14 foot jumper. I was worried that the Kings would sign a reject if their other attempts to land someone fail. I would of even been grateful for Crawford, as at least he can score. Now once again, the Kings brought in another waste of talent who contributes little if anything. I wonder if he can even scream as well as Mikki Moore after being run over while attempting to draw a foul.

Tyreke/Thomas
Thornton/Jimmer/Garcia
Salmons/Outlaw/Greene
Hayes/Hickson/Honeycutt
Cousins/Thompson/Whiteside
well we did add depth at the SG/SF/PF position with outlaw and it's really a bargain to have him at 3 million per year. are bench is pretty good with jimmer/garcia/outlaw/hickson/thompson but our starting lineup really isn't scaring anyone besides tyreke and cousins. maybe in the near future we'll be able to trade some of our young pierces for proven players. anyway i think we needed to add a good backup point guard because we can't expect tyreke to play 48 minutes a game and isaiah thomas is a rookie so that's a lot of pressure on him.

If Thornton plays like he did at the end of last year, he's another threat IMO.
and I have a feeling Thomas will be able to play backup PG for 10 mpg. If not, then the 15th spot can go to a backup PG.

Agree. Here's where I fault Petrie too. If the Maloofs only wanted to spend $3M more instead of the $7-$8M I wish they had, then Petrie still didn't have to spend it on Outlaw.
For $3M:
* Damien Wilkins
* Joel Przybilla
* Dominic McGuire
* Anthony Parker
* Roger Mason (now resigned with Wizards)
* Kapono (now with L.A. Lakers)
* Steve Novak (back with Spurs)
These guys would be better fits IMO.

problem is, i looked through the free agent list and there really isn't any proven point guards left. and if tyreke gets hit with the injury bug again....we're screwed
If Tyreke goes down with injury, we're fucked anyway lol
Thanks.

I'll give it a chance.
Outlaw is still fairly young and it can't be easy to come back from a lost injury season(09-10) to a new team that is horrible and not have a rough year last season. I won't take a "only as good as your last season" approach with Outlaw considering the circumstances. I don't see why he can't return to his 06-09 form which is well worth 3 million to either be a starter(but not a big minute starter) or a valuable reserve.
I just read Outlaw is going to be out for 2 weeks though. Not a good start.

The problem is they aren't doing a low risk gamble. They have him for 4 years. If he doesn't fit, or continues to be garbage than thats a waste of cap/roster space. As Nura said, there are several decent alternatives that could of been had for only one year. If Hayes is gone for a while, than you can easily throw that money at Humphries or Dal who are still desperately seeking employment. High risk, medium-low reward gambles are what got the Kings stuck with a lot of bad contracts in previous seasons.

That would have been nice too, but there's obviously the risk he "retires" for a year. Jason Williams did that a few years ago after he signed as a free agent with the Clippers. He signed a contract, then "retired" 1.5 months later. A year later, he unretired and signed with the Magic. Maybe he didn't get along with Coach Dunleavy Sr. It couldn't have been because the Clippers signed Baron Davis, because they had signed Davis before Williams.

Agree. Why Outlaw for 4 years, when they could have had some of these other guys for 1 year or 2?
Again, I liked Outlaw in Portland, but that's when they didn't have much bench depth, and he was their shot-taker off the bench.
On the Kings, there's already a lot of different guys that can create their shot. So someone else would have been a better fit.

He would have lost like 20 million bucks by doing that and risk that the NBA wouldnt allow him to return, given they'd know why he did what he did. He would have played - unhappily maybe lol
