I'm glad to see all the practice Grant was ranting about paid off. Kings only down 23 points. Swear, nobody who plays SF on this team can defend a damn.

66-43 heading to half. Lawson is gone for the game. Not that it matters since the Kings can't even stop Harrington from penetrating from 15 feet out.

Yes, Jimmer. 5 seconds on the shot clock...hold it until the very last second and jump into the defending player trying/failing to draw the foul which allows the clock to expire. You are shooting better, but god you can be dumb.

7, iam surprised their is 1. Awful game. Really difficult to watch. I am sorry, but I see no real improvement with Smart. Wins against the Spurs and Pacers were certainly an aberration. This team might even be worse than Westfail. We are consistently getting blown out. This team need to build around Cuz and blow the rest of this mess up. Won't happen until Petrie leaves and the Magoofs sell!

Yeah, not much to post about without being redundant about how bad the Kings are. Its pathetic in every way. The blowouts have gotten even worse these days. No defense, horrible offense, almost no effort. Bad bad bad

80 pts in the paint by Denver . a record in the NBA this season. Nice stat. still 9 minutes left to go after the NBA record in history.

Cousins is the only star on this team! Period! But, we have so many holes on this team. No Point, no Sg, and no other big man can help Cuz. And No, Chuck Hayes, as much as I like his game, is not the answer either.
looks like I picked a good night to go out and not watch the Kangs

Honeycutt knocks the ball away for the steal, then Greene loses it. Thomas with the 3!!! OMG down by only 30!!! Time for the comeback of the century. Just need 10 3s in 2 minutes.

92 points in the paint....Most teams struggle to get 92 points let alone in the paint. Horrible.
I liked Grant's "this Nugget team has been together for a long time, they play so well together" - um, no. No, not even close there, Grant.
Even the announcers have to make excuses. lol

Yeah..half their team came from the Melo trade. They got Miller, Fernandez, and Brewer this offseason. They just are a better skilled team, a better coached team and they WORK AS A TEAM.

Was that an alley oop play, or a pick and roll play? Or did Greene just luck himself into a basket after Thomas passed it to him?

When watching the Kings, pay close attention to how poorly the players set picks, and also how poorly the player with the ball uses the pick. It is amazing how bad they both are. Then, watch the other team's players set picks and how well the player with the ball uses the pick. If someone could actually coach these guys some fundamentals (they should have learned how to properly set picks in high school), they wouldn't spend so much time forcing shots when the shot clock gets down to 5 after absolutely doing nothing with the ball for 20 seconds. It seems like the Kings were not really being taught anything the entire time Westphal was there. At least Smart seems to be trying, but they are so poor fundamentally and have such low Bball IQs, it's gonna take a long time to fix this.

Thomas drove in to collapse the defense then kicked it out to Greene who was cutting behind and he went right in for the dunk.

To his credit, Westphal was calling out much of the same problems were are seeing during his time with the Kings. Smart and the assistant coaches have mentioned the problems too. Unfortunately coaches can only do so much. Some players just aren't good at listening, learning, caring. Some players have so much to learn, especially on a young team like this that they aren't capable of allowing everything to sink in.
Watching the players, their low basketball IQ which you mentioend is painfully obvious. That is why they settle for making the same mistakes every time. Why does Tyreke drive into 4 defenders? Why does JT take an extra dribble when he is right underneath the basket? Why do they celebrate a basket and let 4 opponents beat them down the court to score uncontested? Why does Cisco jump for every bloody pump fake a shooter does? Why doesn't Salmons retire? I understand there is a learning curve, but jesus, they fail basketball 101.

Cisco used to be a good defender, but starting last year, I too noticed he started biting on pump fakes more.

Yeah I liked Cisco defensively, but maybe with injuries and inconsistant playing time that part of his game was effected. Tonight he picked up a couple quick silly fouls and was being beat by bench players. Tonight though, the entire perimeter defense was about as bad as its ever been at letting people penetrate. Not to mention being beat down the floor after misses.

As much as I liked the win @ Indiana last year, I'll never forget the commentary in the game thread, about how Cisco's poor fouling of Granger, and his poor defense on Granter, was letting Indiana back in the game. Which was unusual, given Cisco's normal steady play. But I had agree that they were right, Granger was just baiting him, stopping the clock, and letting Indiana get back in the game. Fortunately the Kings made one final run to blow the game open again.
But that game started to raise my antenna about his defense.
It seems that Cisco can only be a decent offensive player right now.

Yeah, which extremely limits his value. Before you bring him in and he was a guy you can count on to play tough defense and hit big shots. Now, he is a guy you wonder if you amnesty when the offseason hits. Though fortunately Salmons and Outlaw are the top suitors for that. Saddest part was all of their strengths were supposed to be on defense, but the SF position is as horrid as ever.

Yeah, if they were in their prime, Salmons would have brought the man-to-man defense, Outlaw would have provided some highlight blocks and steals, and Garcia would have brought the team defense and decent indivual defense.
Instead, the SF spot has an efficiency of 11, while giving up 23.
http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fantasy/nba/sacramento-kings/small-forward/profile/12/26/8-1-1-eff
The SF is 30th in EFF on offense, and 29th in DEFF.
http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fantasy/nba/teamstats/12/8/eff/1-1
Hoops Stats also says the backcourt is the least terrible spot, ranking 25th.
The frontcourt is 29th on offense and 30th on defense. I do think that the bad defense of the frontcourt hurts more than the slightly improved offense from Cousins.

Although I think our front court defense does suck, a lot of that does fall on the lap of the perimeter defense. If the guards and SFs can't stop penetration then you are going to give up a ton of baskets down low by default. Offensively, our front court is very poorly established. Cousins never gets the ball down low (albiet he needs more moves) while JT/Hickson are mostly on mop up duty. The offense is about seeing how many dribbles a guard can take before shooting an off balanced 3.

That's Sacramento Kings basketball!
You forgot to add that forwards like Greene and Honeycutt will do it too, since that's the Kings way!
Toward the end of the year, this will be another memorable call: "Chuck Hayes from downtown, airball!".
It's okay. Petrie said this morning that the Kings will have about 15 million in cap space next year and "we'll see where we are come June"!1!1!1!1 WOO!O!O!O!O!

$15M? That means the Kings can sign Louis Amundson to a 4/$32 contract and Keyon Dooling to a $3/$18 deal. Go Petrie!! Wrangle in your usual scrubs.
