I think they think the players will eventually cave, and they might, but they're going to lose a lot of casual fans in the process.

I mean really - what are the players going to do? Most of these franchises, outside of a small handful can handle a lost season financially.

funny thing is they would have been way better off getting something done before they cancelled games. The deals they will get now will be shit compared to those

Most ownership groups get their money from financial ventures outside of basketball so they won't be hurt too much when you consider they won't be putting any $$ into their teams this season. Still for them, its still far from ideal.

Players will feel the effect the most, especially the lower tier players that don't have the endorsement deals that Lebron/Wade and company have. Kobe can go overseas, and earn $5M for playing a couple games. They still get lots of money for far less work and chances are some of these guys won't even be giving 100% since its not their league per se. Its still a far drop from earning $10-20M that they are earning in the NBA but its something. Now the average NBA player who isn't well known won't be getting those sexy overseas options like the top tier players were getting.

This can of been handled far better and is just a lose/lose situation. The pride of the players wouldn't allow for them to settle for anything less than obtaining 90% of their demands. They didn't want to feel like the owners are in control and to give in to their wants. Sadly, thats exactly what will happen and it always does. It happened in baseball. It happened in hockey. The players will cave, give up some of their demands while working out comprimises that they can do RIGHT NOW and save themselves lots of money. Instead they are talking half-assed in meetings with little intent to find a solid middle ground. Its basically to act like they are trying and merely blaming the owners for everything.

There still are the operating costs involved in running a franchise. I don't know how big of an impact they might be, but they include:

* Paying your GM
* Paying other staff (scouts, etc.)
* Making lease payments, if applicable, on the arena
* Paying the lease on the charter jet
* If the owners own the arena, then they have to spend on operating expenses associated with that. Including paying the staff at the arena too.

There's probably 3-4 other additional costs too. Again though, without having a ballpark of what these salaries and payments can be, I don't know what the owners will have to spend, even with no NBA games being played.

I'm sure the TV deals help offset some of these costs.

Just sick of this crap. Had to deal with this months ago for the NFL and now for the NBA

don't want to hear sh*t from the owners or players. Just make the announcement when the lockout is over and the season starts so I can give a shit

It killed baseball, and hockey, and if the football season woulda got cancelled it woulda been hurting too and now a whole season of no bball its going to be crazy. Alot of fans are gonna turn this back on this sport thats for sure. Even much more with them sayign the Kings wont be able to hold up if the lockout continues

The Maloofs are one of the Ownership groups that will probably do better without a season....
they own the arena and get cuts from all events and concessions...and parking at those events

probably schedule even more events now
