I wouldn't be so quick to bash the Raiders. Obviously, they gave up a lot, but they need a Qb NOW.
They're in a position where they can compete for the division or a wild card spot, so why risk that with Kyle Boller?
Palmer is a vet, he had some bad seasons at the end there with Cincy but that team was also falling apart. He's in a new setting now, and in a winning environment.
He might not have any great WR's here in Oakland, but I like Ford and Heyward-Bey..two of the fastest guys in the league and Palmer loves throwing the ball down the field. It doesn't hurt to have Darren McFadden at your disposal either.
Of course, this could backfire. He could get injured again, throw INT's like he was doing last year etc...but it's a bold move by Oakland, and I'm curious to see how he fits in with Oakland.

Here's the reaction on radio:
KNBR 680 AM:
Fitz and Brooks: They like it. Raiders had to try and win now, because the lifecycle of an NFL team is so short. Plus the Raiders have been bad for so long. They said Palmer was the best available QB.
They also said that the Raiders were good with special teams, and that a divisional opponent in the Chargers weren't, so they should have an advantage there.
Ralph and Tom: Tom says it's an ok move. It's just that Palmer won't be ready to play anytime soon, he's been out of the game for a while. But once he gets in shape, it will be ok.
KNBR 1050 AM:
Damon Bruce: He likes the move. He also said the Raiders had to do something now. The management couldn't look the other 53 guys in the eyes and say that they had a chance to get Palmer, but declined, and would once again have nothing to play for.
They likened Palmer to a BMW/Mercedes with 50,000K miles. Not in the best shape, but he was good at one point, and he can still give you something.
95.7 The Game:
The Wheelhouse: They likened Palmer to a 2003 Porshe. At one point, was great. Now, it could be good. But you don't want to be the one standing next to the car if it sets on fire. Said Palmer has had a long recent injury history. But that the Raiders had to try something now. They can't wait 3 years for more draft picks.
KHTK 1140:
Grant Napier Sports Radio: Grant was very wary of the long layoff that Palmer has had. Said they had to do something though to inject some excitement in the franchise. They couldn't keep being moribund.
Said the Raiders had a more balanced team overall than with Palmer's Cincinnati had (but that Cincinnati had better talent at certain positions).
Grant also suggested that the Raiders might divide their team into two distinct units.

it's a very big roll of the dice.....the kind that can set them back years again
Palmers under contract for a while and Campbell is down the road because of an injury no where near as serious and debilitating as Palmer has suffered multiple times
the big question I have is Palmers mobility now behind that Raiders line.
If he bites the dust, the Raiders will be looking really stupid

and.....why has no other team been willing to offer more than a late round pick for Palmer?

A few radio stations felt Campbell had reached his peak, and the Raiders were going to trade him / get compensation for him in the offseason, anyways.

I don't think I would say that.....at all
The Raiders are on their best season in some time. They were being taken seriously
The prudent move would have been to limp thru till they get Chad back and keep building on what they got till something better falls into their laps
I predict more sadness in Oakland

Palmer looks good but I don't think the Raiders can win a playoffs game, nor keep it close. Their defense was abysmally bad in some games earlier this year, and I don't think they've gotten that much better since. Nor do I think that can be suppressed nor ignored. That's a part of who they are too.
And then you add in the penalties . . .

They are going to make the playoffs....and then get destroyed
much like the 9ers
This has no relevance to the thread, but I just needed to say it.

Actually it's relevant. I agree, if Patrick Willis were on the Raiders, they wouldn't have a defense which can only be described using defecation.

No.
The Forty-Niners may lose their first game of the playoffs, but they will not get blown out.

Yeah, we'll have to see how the bracket looks at the end of the regular season.

I think there are two teams that will blow out the Niners.....Green Bay and Pittsburg
Niners might, if they don't stumble too bad, get the #2 seed.
Given the fact that Detroit or Chicago will get a WC since the Pack will obviously win the North, seems like N'awlins is going to be the only contestant to challenge for the two seed and the Niners already have a two game lead on them.
I can't see the Niners losing more than 3 games the rest of the way, so, at worst that's 12-4.

False. They didn't make the playoffs.
much like the 9ers
False. 9ers won a game. I don't know if you heard about it. There was something about a great finish yesterday.
