Federer - Berdych SF:
This was straightforward. Berdych played horrible, he could not get many shots in.
Isner - Tsonga SF:
Tsonga won 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.
Despite the easy score for Isner in the 1st set, he wasn't playing very well. His movement was terrible in the 1st set, he looked caught off guard and flat footed.
In the 2nd set, Isner played a terrible tiebreaker, winning only one point. He made an error on pretty much every point.
In the 3rd set, Isner had 3 match points at 5-6. But Tsonga saved them. Then in the tiebreaker, while Isner didn't play as badly as the 2nd set tiebreaker, he still didn't play that well. He only won 3 points.
Good match. I like watching both players, they usually give you a good box score result. What I mean is a lot of competitive 6-4, 7-6 sets. Yeah Isner doesn't move on the baseline the greatest, and sometimes Tsonga has a few too many questionable shots. But Isner does move forward nicely, and Tsonga can also rip great winners.
Someone like Monfils can be fun, but is too frustrating for me. Monfils does this shit where he loses to too many players he's ranked higher than, and he has too many 6-1 set box scores. I don't see Monfils come back and win when he's down a set against a good to great opponent. Also, Tsonga's career record compared to Monfils' says it all. .689 vs. .642.
I wish Monfils could deliver this kind of box score more often (it was against FED too!):
7-6 (9-7), 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (7-4)
Tsonga - Federer Finals:
They had a cool laser light show during the intros. Part of it had a green laser "T" on one side of the court, and a green laser "F" on the other side.
Tsonga had two break chances in the first game, but was unable to convert. Federer went on to win the set 6-1. It went to a 2nd set tiebreak, but Federer won about 16 of the match's last 21 points. He got on a roll.
Tony Parker presented the finalists with their trophies.
THE FED!
His first win at the Paris Masters 1000, his 18th Masters 1000 title (2nd all-time to Nadal's 19), and his 69th career title.
I thought the court today played faster than yesterday.
