* When Mike Lamb was a co-host with Grant Napier, their radio show was called "Sportsline".

* After Mike was fired / laid off, the radio show became "The Grant Napear Show".

* A few months ago, KHTK started branding themselves as "SportsRadio 1140".

* On 11/9/2011, KHTK rebranded themselves as Sports Radio 1140 The Fan.

+++++++++++

Personally, I was fine with the show being called "Sportsline". I don't think rebranding them as "SportsRadio" or "The Fan" is going to increase ratings. I also think it's confusing that CBS radio stations; Clear Channel Communications; Entercom radio stations; a Lincoln Financial Group radio station; a Dispatch Broadcast Group station; Capital Broadcasting Company; Dickey Broadcasting Media; Cumulus Media; and Emmis Communications call all have a radio station with "The Fan" branding.

It doesn't even breed familiarity with being an exclusive CBS Radio station trademark, if all of the above radio broadcasting ownership companies also have stations with that brand name.

curious moves going on with KHTK since Whitey left...
and yes "The Fan" is a move in a very lame direction

Whitey is part of "The Rise Guys" now on 95.7 The Game from 6am-10am. "The Rise Guys" currently consists of Whitey Gleason, Mark Kriedler, Dan Dibley & Jeremiah Crowe.

95.7 was a country music station from 2007- April 15 2011. Then it became an all sports station. They also currently broadcast the A's. I was initially disappointed when the A's moved to that station this year. But then when they switched formats to all sports a few weeks into the MLB season, it was much better. I like having sports teams on dedicated sports stations, because I like to hear either hosts or callers talk about those teams during the day.

Chris Townsend does evenings from 6-10pm. I like him. I remember when KHTK had the "Krueg and Towney show" weekend afternoons. It was as late as 2008. Then Townsend left to 860 AM, and did the A's postgame show there in 2010. When the A's went to 95.7 for 2011, Townsend started off doing just the postgame show, but when they went to the sports format, he had a full show.

It's also odd that Gleason can call the show "The Rise Guys", when Phanton and Justin Case aren't with him. After Whitey was fired from KHTK in 2005, Phanton continued to call the show "The Rise Guys".

These radio hosts seem to have a high turnover rate. Or they jump to different stations, whether of their own choice or not, every few years.

As for KHTK, they went from having all three hours of The Jim Rome show, to only the latter two hours, to now having it tape delayed from 12pm-3pm.

And the Don Geronimo show used to be "The Don & Mike show", then Jim Kozimor had his own show in that timeslot (12-3pm) for about a year, then they brought back just Don Geronimo, and now they shuffled him to the mornings.

Seems like whenever these program directors see low ratings, they make a move. But then they're just retreading previous moves. They're like sports G.M.'s, lol. For example, Orlando has Hedo, then they do a sign-and-trade to let him go to Toronto, then they reacquire him.

Or, Boston has Antione Walker, then Danny Ainge trades him to Dallas, then 1.5 years later, he trades for him again. I know some of these moves were for financial reasons rather than talent reasons, but there's still some similarities to the way these moves are done, and program directors at radio stations.

I listen to his shows just to see what guests he has, because I just want to listen to his interviews.

But as far as his sports take, he doesn't offer much analysis. Everything is about how a team has more "energy", or "wanting it more", or "hunger", or "motivation", or "playing with an edge". He doesn't talk about the strengths or weaknesses of a team very much. He'll just use one of the above phrases, and then play some soundbite.

Even when talking about a high profile game, he just focuses on some soundbites that have nothing to do with the game, or some odd incidents.

For example, when it comes to football, I'd rather read what IowaSacKing93 or PackfanMatt_12 (http://kingsforum.net/live/member.php?7-PackfanMatt_12) say, as they give actual keys to the game. Even if it doesn't happen that way, I can tell that at least tried to analyze the matchup. And their posts at least stimulate my mind and make me ask them questions.
